If you are at least 70-1/2 years old and have an IRA, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows you to make tax-free distributions from your IRA for charitable purposes. There is a limit of $100,000 total giving per year, and the law is effective only for 2006 and 2007. To quality for the tax exemption, simply direct your IRA trustee to make a payment directly to UC Press Foundation.
