Internships in Editing
The Editing Department of University of California Press is seeking applicants for an editorial internship. The intern will gain wide exposure to the field of book publishing—particularly scholarly publishing—and will have the opportunity to acquire editing skills through hands-on experience with project editors in the Editing Department.

The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in preparing book manuscripts for editing, design, and typesetting; reviewing edited manuscripts; checking proof pages for consistency and adherence to editorial and design standards; editing and proofreading jacket copy; editing and proofreading indexes; and attending editorial meetings in which decisions are made about how each title will be designed and produced. The intern will also do a small amount of administrative tasks such as filing, handling correspondence, and photocopying. The intern will work directly with a small group of senior project editors who serve as mentors.

This is an unpaid internship with a minimum time commitment of 10 hours per week.

The Press is looking for an individual with the following qualifications: a command of grammar, usage, and punctuation; proofreading skill; office experience; and Macintosh computer proficiency. Prospective interns should also have a B.A. degree.

The Editing Department internship runs in three sessions: Spring (January to April), Summer (May to August) and Fall (September to December). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. To apply, please send a letter and resume to Caroline Knapp at caroline.knapp@ucpress.edu.
